Prerequisites:
- You will need your SD card, I think any SD card is fine but might as well keep using the corrupted Renault one.
- You will need an account on the R-Link store with your car added to the garage by VIN: R-LINK Store
- R-Link Toolbox installed: https://cdn.sa.services.tomtom.com/static/rltb/Windows/InstallRLinkToolbox.exe
- R-Link Explorer 1.4.1: R-link explorer [download]
Steps:
1) Go to Task Manager on your PC and kill RLinkToolbox.exe.
2) Open R-Link Explorer, and click "Tools > Build new SD card". Click to confirm and let it format the card.
3) Safe-Eject the card from your PC
4) Insert the card into your car and turn on the R-Link touchscreen (or just start your car)
5) Once R-Link has started, safe-eject the SD card from your car by pressing the + button on the touchscreen. This 'marries' the card to your car (R-Link writes some identifier data to it).
6) Start R-Link toolbox on your PC
7) Reinsert the SD card into your PC and R-Link Toolbox should recognize it and start installing things on it. You will see the SD card is now not corrupt and has an ID and an R-Link serial number on it
8) Safe-Eject the card from your PC, and repeat the steps above: insert it and eject from the car (it may perform a few updates), then reinsert into your pc.
9) Go to the R-Link Store and log in: R-LINK Store
10) Select your car, then go to Updates -> Manage My Products
11) In R-Link Toolbox, click the text in the top right that says Show SD Card ID. Note the ID. Confirm that you now see this SD card ID in the RLink Portal.
12) Now you can buy maps etc and load them on the card and it will work with your car. They will sync with Toolbox as they normally do when you click My Downloads.

Just so your aware though, building a new SD card was the easy bit of the process. My starter for 10 was from the folk on the Rlink Explorer site, but at the time no one had got a working SD. I resolved that. However cloning the old card is really the main task, so you need a working SD card for that. If you don't clone your own card (you can't clone anyone else card) you can't get the TOMTOM maps working. So if you don't have a backup of your maps your kinda screwed and its off to the dealer (or ebay) for a new SD card.
Moral of the story, keep a backup of your card!

I did come across your posts but there was no one thread that had all this in one place along with links to the resources, and a starting point of "hey, my card is corrupt, what do I do".

If you don't clone your own card (you can't clone anyone else card) you can't get the TOMTOM maps working. So if you don't have a backup of your maps your kinda screwed and its off to the dealer (or ebay) for a new SD card.
Untrue. I was able to purchase a map off the Rink site and load it into the car with this fresh SD card and it worked on the first try. Only thing missing are the voice files for directions. I think you can copy these off another card using R-Link explorer if you have access to one, I will confirm later.

@dbsanfte Thanks for sharing your experience, I am sure many owners will be thanking you in the future, and I will be less worried when doing updates. All we need now is Renault to update the TomTom maps on R-Link website, my ZE40 is 2 years behind the latest TomTom maps, I emailed Renault UK CEO but he couldn't help, we should not let France have any of our UK financed vaccines until they update the maps !

Post 7 onwards from my link is a full breakdown on how to flash a new card, and I even included pictures. Considerable time was spent on this hack, I find it slightly unbelievable that you happened to work out the steps yourself without some outsider help. Especially given its here, and a version of the guide over on the CANZE site both from 2016.
Anyhoo, well done for your effort.
As for the comment about it not being true, well duh! You can't recover what you don't have backed up but you can go onto the rlink site and BUY the map. Worth noting the maps on Rlink site cost more than just buying a new SD card from Ebay.

Heh. What horse do you have in this race? You just come off as incredibly jealous and bitter that someone has tread upon your 'turf'.
This is my personal experience from trying to solve a corrupt SD card after many hours of googling, and condensing directions into a single thread. If you don't like it, I don't care.

Fair play for your effort. Just saying back when I worked this out there wasn't any info on Google. Up until your post there was 2 and only 2 full guides, mine and the subsequent one by @yoh-there Cloning and Resizing TomTom SD cards – CanZE (fisch.lu)
Its not my turf but a little acknowledgement would be nice.
Don't worry there is no prize for coming first, second or last. Just a nicely cloned SD card.

There was also a weird quirk to R-Link in general where sometimes it would go silent.. often it would need a reboot (home button x 5 times in rapid succession) or sometimes it just needed the car to go into a deep sleep and then be woken up for it to come back.

There was also a weird quirk to R-Link in general where sometimes it would go silent.. often it would need a reboot (home button x 5 times in rapid succession) or sometimes it just needed the car to go into a deep sleep and then be woken up for it to come back.
The voices are greyed out under the old SD card on the rLink store website so I can't unselect them from the old SD card. And the new card only has the map, not any voices listed, so I can't add them.
I was able to copy them from another SD card, but only the recorded human voices work, not the computer voices. This might be because the source car was a 2015 rlink 1.0 and the destination car is a 2017 rlink 1.5. Not sure. The two computer voices are selectable in the car under Voices, but they don't make sound when you Test or use them. Prerecorded voices are fine. It's a weird one.

That makes sense.. The voices are not assigned to that SD card and you can't remove them on the old one as you don't have it and the website won't let you (might be a mandatory component).. Hmm

I probably shouldn't share this, but I will.
Use Rlink explorer. Mount and Explore the TomTom.000 file, you'll find the folders for the voices in there, restore from whatever location you've previously stored them (or gleaned them from).

I have already done this, as described above.
The pre-recorded voices work, but the computerized ones do not.

When I try to register on the R-Link store it says the VIN is invalid and won't let me continue?

I have already done this, as described above.
The pre-recorded voices work, but the computerized ones do not.
If memory serves, the electronic voices are stored in more than 1 location. Worth checking.
